If you want our two cents on the matter, Guinness World Records is an eclectic collection of seemingly impossible feats. However, since everyone on planet Earth is different, so are the records attested by the GWR specialists. And I have to say, some of these feats are not exactly newsworthy – such as the 'fastest time to cross a greased pole' or the 'world's longest mullet.'
Sure, some of them are hilarious enough to spend an afternoon with the kids on the official Guinness World Records account and enjoy a good laugh or two. On the other hand, every now and then, a record that no one thought about still draws our attention toward the steadfastness of human resolve.
Meet stuntman Marco Giony from Italy (Team Scorpione), who achieved a feat that no one asked for – or maybe even considered – he went through the tightest possible gap, which was just 380 cm (12.5ft) wide. But he didn't do it on foot or even in a regular car or SUV. Instead, he went through it driving an HGV – a heavy good vehicle of over 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs)… while on its side wheels!
As such, he and the team give us renewed faith in the Guinness World Records, again being a source of eternal fascination and inspiration for people around the world. The achievements, often pushing the boundaries of what we perceive as being impossible, sometimes have the perfect blend of entertainment and importance.
I am sure that just like many other automotive enthusiasts, you and I have been mesmerized by the talent of truck drivers maneuvering into the tightest of spots in their huge trailers. Now, take that to the next level with a side wheelie of the truck and the attempt to drive it through a six-pack of 'concrete barriers.' Marco Davide Giony is now 43 years old, and his daredevil spirit has pushed him to overcome any obstacles, all trials and tribulations, including a couple of failed initial attempts when he crashed into the side barriers.
Finally, the third time was the charm, and he navigated the course without any other incident. Oh, by the way, it seems the achievement was done in front of a live audience during a show – so the pressure was probably heavier than the Renault truck he was driving! Oh well, all is well when it ends well, right? Now, since I'm approaching my lunch break, it's time to recommend a few additional videos, including the 'fastest time to complete five car stunts' that I have embedded second below for our (guilty) viewing pleasure.
