Here's your first official look at Audi's mid-sized luxury sedan. It's little more than a taillight, but we already have some solid ideas about what the latest A6 sedan will look like as well as what it will offer.

If you're waiting for the full reveal of the luxury sedan, that will come later this month. Audi plans to show the A6 on April 15 at 2 PM CEST. That's 8 AM Eastern Time.

Audi offers the A6 in both the four-door sedan, the one that will be revealed next week, and the Avant wagon. The A6 Avant was revealed in early March, and that means that we already know almost exactly what to expect from the A6 sedan.

Much Of Design Previewed By A6 Avant

"I believe it's the perfect balance between sporty and proud and sharp and soft," said Audi exterior designer Francesco D'Amore about the wagon. The sedan is much of the same, but without the extra glass at the back and long roof. Expect it to have the same underbite grille as the Avant (Audi says it looks "very proud"). It will also come with Audi's latest and sleekest version of the singleframe grille. However, the grille will likely be a touch different from the wagon's.

Audi's teaser showed the OLED taillights on the back of the A6, and they appear to be almost identical to the Avant's. They're designed for the trunk, not a tailgate, of course, but expect their functionality to be handicapped for the American market in much the same way as the new S5's were. The wagon manages a coefficient of drag of just 0.25. The sedan will likely be similarly sleek and Audi says that this cuts cabin noise as well as improves efficiency.

The Avant launched with two new engines, both using two 48V mild hybrid motors to allow even more use of electric power alone to move the vehicle. The first was a 201-horsepower 2.0-liter diesel, the second a 362-hp 3.0-liter V6. Don't expect the diesel here, but do expect more powerful S and RS models to follow. It's also possible the mild hybrid system won't make it to the US, as it was left off of the US-spec A5 and S5 models due to market-specific preferences.

Audi Has Held Back Features For This Reveal

Inside, the A6 Avant showed a new blended screen for the driver and center display. The new center screen is sharply angled toward the driver, but a second optional passenger-side screen lets the second-seat occupant control infotainment, audio, and nav features.

Audi did hold back details about features, including the size of the screens, the car's tech features, and even its driver-assist suite, which we expect to be extensive. Those details were likely held back from the Avant launch to give the brand something to talk about when the sedan launched. So to find out more about not just the A6 sedan but the entire A6 line, you'll need to tune in on April 15. We'll keep you updated with all the latest.

Expect the cars to show up in dealers not long after the reveal. Audi said that the A6 Avant should be in the hands of customers before the end of May. In Germany, of course. America will likely need to wait longer. And yes, it will be the A6 after all. Audi killed the plan that would have rebadged this car as the A7 instead.
