German police are using this awesome tuned Mustang
It's being used to promote the TUNE IT! SAFE! campaign.

The German Polizei have a new toy - this tuned Ford Mustang V8 GT.

You're unlikely to get pulled over by it, though. Instead, it has been built to promote the Polizei's TUNE IT! SAFE! campaign.

Local Ford tuning specialist Wolf Racing was engaged to put the Mustang together. Dubbed "Wolf Wide 5.0", it rolls on specially-developed, 20-inch wheels wrapped in Hankook tires; height-adjustable coilover suspension; a full bodykit comprising front and rear aprons, side panels, rear diffuser, and a huge rear wing, and a sports exhaust.

Power from the 5.0-liter, V8 motor has been bumped up too, from 421 horsepower (310 kilowatts) to 455 hp (335 kW). That's enough to drop the 0 to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) time down to 4.3 seconds. Top speed is 166 mph (268 km/h).

Of course, it wears the full Polizei livery, and has a full complement of blue lights and sirens by Hella. In addition, the side windows are covered in Securlux safety foil, which prevents them shattering.

The TUNE IT! SAFE! campaign aims to encourage car tuning that is safe and compliant with Germany's motor vehicle regulations. A number of government and industry bodies, parts manufacturers and the Essen Motor Show - where the Mustang was unveiled - support the initiative.

A new, Polizei-spec tuner car is built every year to promote the campaign. In previous years they have included a C7 Corvette, an AC Schnitzer BMW 4 Series, a Brabus Mercedes A-Class, an Abt Audi R8, and even an electric Mini.

The Mustang will spend the next 12 months touring car shows and other event, raising awareness for the campaign.

It seems to be a growing trend that automakers tease police forces with awesome cars that they can never actually have. Like this Renault R.S.01. And this Ford Focus RS. At least the Italian Policia get to use their Lamborghini Huracan on patrol.
