But the Germans never gave up on the electric car, and their new concept for the i4 sedan gives us hope that something exciting is happening in this segment.
Now, there's nothing wrong with the Tesla Model 3. We love almost everything about it, from the shape to the way it accelerates and how practical it can be. However, competition always makes things better. Unless it's a competition between your cats; then you'll have a mess to clean up.
Quarantine humor aside, we've got a nice video of the i4 Concept from Supercar Blondie. And before you ask, it was probably shot a while back. We're hesitant to get excited about a car that looks this good, but BMW assures people that what you see is what you'll get... mostly.
For instance, you might like those wheels, which are apparently making it into production. So is a new type of badge that will eventually trickle down to other Bimmers. It's not just the stuff you can see, as the world-famous epic soundtrack creator Hans Zimmer worked on how the i4 sounds.
YouTuber Supercar Blondie also gets to sit inside this expensive design study, and it is amazing. Traditional luxury is all about killing lots of cows, but the i4 is sustainable yet also fully decked out. Meanwhile, the massive curved infotainment screen merges beautifully into the digital instrument cluster.
BMW's previous electrified projects have somewhat failed, but the i4 promises to deliver in the all-important range and performance departments. The futuristic sedan makes over 500 horsepower and its 80 kWh battery is said to offer up to 270 miles EPA or 373 miles according to the European WLTP standards. That sounds like more than enough, and with 60 miles of range added in just six minutes of charging, it won't be much of an issue.
