The only camouflage found in our latest round of spy shots surrounds the rear hatch, taillights, and back doors.
That means this is our best look yet at the G30-based 5 Series Touring, demonstrating how the new model carries its wagon-specific changes. For one, the rear doors look longer, particularly the back windows. This could be down to the change in shape required to accommodate the cargo area – BMW pushed the Hofemeister kink back from the C-pillar to the D-pillar, replacing the former with a more conventional design.
In back, it looks like designers made small enough changes to the rear bumper that they weren't worth covering in camo. This prototype is missing reflectors and some of the smaller styling details present on the sedan, although that will likely change ahead of an official unveiling. The taillight detail is obscured, although we can barely make out the overall shape, which looks as unchanged as possible from the four-door.
As is typically the case, the 5 Series Touring will share its powertrains, interior treatments, and tech with the four-door sedan. We're expecting an official debut no later than the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.
